EMD-8 The EMD E8 was a 2,250-horsepower
(1,678kW), passenger train locomotive manufactured by
General
Motors’
(EMD) of La Grange, Illinois. The cab version, or E8A, was manufactured
from August
1949 to December 1953, and 449 were produced, 7 for the Southern
Railway.
On the A&BR Kato E8s supply motive power
for both
of the Southern’s crack passenger trains - the Blue Ridge
Crescent and the
Mountain Queen. Both wear the green and
gold signature colors of the Southern’s principal passenger
lines.
